With my 30th birthday looming, I decided it was time I started taking my health seriously. Only problem was, having never really worked out – besides the occasional walk on a treadmill or climb on a stair master; I didn’t know where to start. Luckily for me, my family decided to present me with 10 training sessions with Sally as a birthday gift. At first I was terrified, how was this out of shape chick going to look trying to workout with someone who did this for a living? It took me a month to gather up the courage to finally book my first appointment, but I finally set one up for the beginning of February. Not going to lie, I would have gladly welcomed death after that first session! I hurt everywhere – from my eyeballs to the tips of my toes, for a week after that initial workout. I didn’t let this dissuade me though; I just saw it as proof that I was making the right decision. I have been meeting with Sally regularly, and it is paying off! I didn’t start with any goal in mind, just overall good health. This process hasn't’t always been easy, in fact it’s rarely been easy, but I try to distract myself from the pain by cracking jokes, smiling through it, or when all else fails, cussing Sally out! “In one ear, out the other” she always says to me. If my transition can be used to inspire others, I’m glad to share it. Trust me, If I can do it, you certainly can too!

Hi there, my name is Tanya White and I am 33 years old. I have had many struggles throughout my life related to eating and I am now finally getting the results I have been wanting for years. It really started when I was 13 going on 14 years old when I was entering high school. That transition was a tough one, not that I was nervous about meeting new friends, but that there was such an image that I felt I needed to measure up to. My best friend was so stick thin and every time I turned around, there was either a commercial, or a magazine that were really forcing the skinny image everywhere. Now at this time in my life I was not over weight at all!! I was very muscular, and fit, but in an athletic way. I played soccer since I was 5 along with many other sports at school, so my legs were bigger and I thought that I needed to change that. At this same time, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, at 13 years of age, I just saw my life crumble in front of me, it was a very tough time. Luckily she was able to have her surgery and went into remission. Over the next few years, I was starting to limit my food options, excessively exercising and by the age of 16 years of age I was hospitalized off and on for a year for Anorexia. I was at this time 60 pounds and the doctors did not think I would come out of this and was preparing my family for my death. When I turned 17, still in the hospital, my mother’s cancer came back, I was able to go home to help care for her, and to spend the last few months all together. Her last words to me was to get better , and really wanted me to be able to have a family of my own. After we said goodbye on May 16th 1996 I kept my promise to my mother. I started to get help with my condition, and started eating regularly and remained to be active and healthy by working out and eating well. A few years down the road, I met my husband and we were married, when I was 22 and when I was 27 years old we were blessed with our first child, our son Devon. After he was born, I felt unwell, very tired and even though my eating had not changed at all, I started gaining weight, and not a little weight, a lot of weight. I went to the doctor to find out that I had Hypothyroidism, which is a condition where your thyroid (that helps regulate your metabolism), was very very low and that is why I had the weight gain. Over 3 years I had 3 children, and each time I gave birth , my thyroid would become very low, and after my last child 3 years ago it was hard to get my levels correct. So over the 3 years I had gained over 100 pounds. This was devastating to me, and I just was in a rut, a vicious circle of trying to eat right and seeing no results. So this past summer I gave up, I ate fast food almost 5 times a week, ate chocolate every day, and consumed coke about 4 times a day. I figured, nothing I did made any difference so I just got in a rut of eating terribly, as it fit with the way I was feeling. This is when I met Sally Chamberland, she is working with me right now, and has changed my life!!! I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for me up until now. I started on September 5th 2012 and have lost 30 lbs and starting to feel so good. Even though this is a struggle trying to get the weight off, I am so blessed to have Sally right there helping me along. Those weak moments (as I do have many of them ) she is always there to help me through it, and I feel great about what I am doing to better myself. So after many years of having food struggles I am now at a point of my life that my thyroid is under control, and I am in control of my life now. I don’t feel lost anymore and helpless. If I had not met Sally who knows where I would be right now. This is a very exciting time for me, as I am seeing my body change in so many wonderful ways, friends, colleagues, and family are now noticing and complimenting me on my hard work, and I am not even at my goal yet. This is motivating to me, to keep me focused on my end goal. I may have a long way to go, but I am setting smaller goals for myself, so it does not seem so overwhelming. I have been 60 pounds and I have been 269 lbs so I have been there, I know what is feels like to be very very skinny and very big. I know how it feels to be judged every day, and it hurts. I look forward to updating all of you on my progress with my weight loss and how I am becoming a healthier and new me.
